Limkokwing bears fruits

22 March 2013

In a few months, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology will release its first cohort of over 800 students for internship in the Swazi corporate industry.

This was announced by Thato Moruti, who is the Head of Communications and Marketing, in the presence of her Royal Highness Inkhosatana Sikhanyiso. This was during the first ever celebration of the National Poetry Day at the university yesterday. Moruti said the internship programme is called the Limkokwing Entrepreneurial Acceleration Platform (LEAP).

He said the programme is held with high esteem because it is tailor made to suit the pressing needs of the economy of Swaziland like the Prime Minister said recently that the kingdom needed youth with entrepreneurial minds.

The LEAP programme is divided into two streams: external and internal placements of the Associate degree programme students.

“The external placement is an in-service training that prepares interns to become future professionals and entrepreneurs,” he said.

He said the internal placement is where their interns undergo an incubation programme where they work on real life projects with the aim of helping them the master skills of business from idea generation, business plans, and preparation and implementation.

“In so doing, we are nurturing these talents towards helping the National economy several notches up the value chain,” said Moruti.

He revealed that in the university, they have student lifestyle events that they encourage students to participate in because these events will help them accentuate their speaking abilities, creative abilities, people skills and business skills.

The university, which was established in 2008, has ambassadors, who are carefully selected. They are a unique network of individuals who are very influential. The institution also has a student representative council (SRC).
