KLFW 2021: Limkokwing alumni marking footprints in the world of fashion
1 December 2021
Alumni from the Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle marked their footprints in the fashion world by participating at this year’s Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week. Themed Design to Sustain, the initiative was in conjunction with Kloth Cares Fabric Lifestyle sustainable community and Lifeline Clothing Malaysia (LLCM).
In alignment with the Commonwealth Fashion Council UK, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals - Design to Sustain aims to promote sustainable and ethical fashion and support zero-waste living.
Along with 13 creative designers, our alumni got the opportunity to produce looks by revamping and reconstructing recycled clothes into brand-new designs to be showcased during KLFW 2021 Digital.
Limkokwing fashion design graduate, Nur Anuar from Malaysia was excited to take part in this initiative.
“I am a big fan of thrift shopping and reworking my clothes, so this was a fun thing to do. I learnt that there are so many clothes that people keep at the back of their closet or worse, throw away and end up in landfills. It’s a meaningful initiative to recycle and rework old clothing and give them a new life,” she said.
Ashanth De Silva who is also a fashion design graduate said that his perception on purchasing clothes has now drastically changed.
“This event really gave me a great exposure by taking me to real sites of the fashion industry, as well as networking with creative local designers. It also taught me how much positive impact we can have on our planet, hence, my views on shopping for new clothes have now changed 180%,” he said.
Limkokwing University’s approach to education gives students an unmatched platform to apply what they learn in the classroom to the real world. Students graduate with valuable experience which helps them transition smoothly into the professional world.
