Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has always been ahead at inviting eminent guest speakers from the industry to provide its students with good insight about the changing needs of the industry and business. The aim is to bridge the gap between academics and industry requirements as much as possible.
Recently, the fashion design students at Limkokwing University were given lessons in fashion management by well-known Malaysian fashion personality, Bill Keith.
Bill Keith is a genuine art lover who is acknowledged for his style and designs. His creations reflect his values of life and of women in general. He has appeared on a TV3 programme called ‘Casa Impian’ to deliver ideas and tips for viewers on lifestyle fashion at one’s home.
The House of Bill Keith exclusively focuses on ladies’ fashion since July 1988. Apart from that, his highly praised wedding planning services owns an international recognition. Bill Keith, who studied Psychology, is also an intellectual public speaker on self-improvement and beauty topics.
“The purpose of my visit here is mainly to get to know the students and to share with them what I have been through as a fashion designer up to this stage of my career. I was also a fashion designing student before, so it’s just to share some of my thoughts, some of the experiences I have and what to look out for,” said Bill Keith.
He also shared that, “A good designer is a designer who knows everything; however a great designer is a designer who plans smart designs, meaning taking into considerations of time, cost, profit, marketing strategies and also the branding itself.”
Bill Keith’s views on Limkokwing Fashion Club: “That’s very nice and something very different. It is definitely a start, and I think it is a fantastic idea. This brings the students to next level and gives opportunity to students to expose their creations.”
He advised that students have to be very careful because it’s right out in the market and the students themselves have to understand quality control for their garments from the choice of the cloth to the end of their designs.
“Limkokwing University houses all creativity because the young generations are now very creative in their fields. Through creativity it develops into a very promising professional career. Being creative is a passion and the courses that Limkokwing University has provided for the students, it’s mainly to enhance their passion and to bring the passion to a next level, which is a brilliant idea,” added Keith.
He also advised all young designers to not give excuses to do things. “Believe in yourself and look forward. Be focused and know what you want. Once you have succeeded, then it’s time for you to benefit others,” concluded Keith.
“It gives me more motivation; I’m looking forward to apply what I have learned through this talk. We have wild exciting fashion shows and it’s so nice to see models showcasing my creations. Industry speeches can help open students’ mind on what’s out there after graduating. Limkokwing is one of the best universities in Asia. I’m very proud of my university,” said fashion student, Angelina Rakhatbekova from Kyrgyzstan.
