Over a 1,000 Limkokwing students from 61 countries celebrated their graduation, accompanied by their proud parents, relatives, friends, colleagues and loved ones, in a heartwarming ceremony at the Plenary Hall, Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on 22 December 2018.
The graduation ceremony, the second one for the Cyberjaya campus this year, was themed ‘Design the Future’ and was graced by HRH Sultanah of Pahang Sultanah Hajjah Dr Kalsom, Limkokwing University Chancellor, as well as Founder President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing.
“Make a difference. Make your life an amazing adventure. Build a legacy that we can all be proud of and do as Tan Sri Limkokwing has done. Be the change that you seek in the world,” said HRH in her speech addressing the Class of 2018.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony included Prince of Pahang, HH Tengku Arif Temenggong Pahang Tengku Fahd Muadzam ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al Mustain Billah; HE Governor of Edo State Nigeria, Godwin Obaseki; Honourable Education and Training Minister of eSwatini, Lady Howard Mabuza; and Prof. Deputy Chair of Limkokwing University, Dato’ Sulaiman Osman.
Representatives from embassies and High Commissions from Tanzania, Somalia, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Soloman Island, Yemen, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fiji Islands, eSwatini, Palestine, Jordan and Indonesia, Kelantan State Government Council, and Limkokwing Industry Partners were also in attendance to celebrate the graduates.
“I am truly impressed being here and I feel as if I am at an assembly of the United Nations,” said Hon Lady Howard-Mabuza, Education and Training Minister of eSwatini.
Truly deserving award recipients
At each graduation, Limkokwing University selects a deserving individual to be honoured for their contributions to society and the country at large.
The recipient for the December 2018 Graduation was YB Dato’ Mohd Azis Jamman, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Malaysia, who received an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership.
“I am touched to be honoured in this manner by such a prestigious university which is growing globally in leaps and bounds,” said Dato’ Mohd Azis.
62 exemplary students were also selected to receive various other awards such as the Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing Award for Leadership, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing Award for Creativity and Innovation, University Colours Award for Ambassadorship and the Leaders of the Future Award.
YM Raja Mohamad Amin bin YM Raja Azhar, who graduated with a Masters in Digital Film and Televsion, received the Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence: “Limkokwing has given me many opportunities for me to excel.”
Meanwhile, Abdullah Zarbakht Shahid from Pakistan received the University Colours Award for Ambassadorship and the Leaders of the Future Award
“Thank you Tan Sri Limkokwing for making this university a home for us where I feel like the whole world is now my family,” said Abdullah, who added that he felt he was a better man than he when he first walked through the gates of Limkokwing University.
Sara Al Asfar who graduated with a Bachelor of Design in Professional Design said she would leave Limkokwing with a heavy heart as she plans to head back to her native Palestine to begin a career as a fashion designer.
“Malaysia will always be my second home,” said Sara.
Message from the President
Addressing the graduating students at the closing of the ceremony, Tan Sri Limkokwing wished them the very best in all their endeavours as they move on to build their futures.
“Class of 2018, may this journey that you started with us take you to the most exciting places, may the footprints that you will be making turn into ground breaking milestones that will help design a better world and a better future for all,” added Tan Sri Limkokwing.
“The vacuum that you leave behind following your departure will be impossible to fill. The booming energy that you brought to us, the diversity, the fun, the laughter that you’ve brought to this campus will be missed,” said Tan Sri Limkokwing.
