Thomas Wee, who graduated with a Bachelor of Design in Professional Design (Visual Communication) in October 2016, believes Limkokwing University is an important industry player that is focused on preparing students for the real world.

Thomas started drawing at a young age, slowly building a strong sense of fervour for art.

He said his grandfather was the first to discover his hidden ability.

“Back then, he used to collect my artworks, which I find it useless, but he always insisted there’s something in me that can be of good use for the society to see and appreciate,” said Thomas.

Art as an escapism

“I like what I do because to me, art is a form of escapism, and most of the time, I express myself through art,” said Thomas.

He worked for several years in an animation studio in Kuala Lumpur, mainly handling illustrations, before making a decision to enrol at Limkokwing.

“I did some research and was mainly influenced by my friends to study here and I was actually impressed with the fact that Limkokwing allows liberty for students to explore new ideas and to be able to execute them with the help of the lecturers,” said Thomas.

Diversity at it’s best

“The most exciting experience here would be when I was able to communicate and work with people from different nationalities, which is basically Limkokwing’s upper hand, and the type of diversity was extremely brilliant,” said Thomas.

He said the multicultural environment at Limkokwing University was a new experience and it was quite a challenge adapting at first, but he soon found himself fitting in quite well.

Student to lecturer

Thomas is now a lecturer at Limkokwing University. “As soon as I graduated, I was offered to be a lecturer and areas that I cover would be illustration and graphic design,” said Thomas.

He believes discipline and exposure to new ideas are two of the main skills he picked up during his time studying at Limkokwing.

“The key to success is having the intensity and determination to do the best in what you are good at, and that is what I am experiencing now.”
