Visual effects maestro Hussin Khan visits Limkokwing

The students from Limkokwing University’s Faculty of Multimedia Creativity met Hussin Khan, a visual effects artist who has worked in many feature films including the blockbuster adventure drama film of 2012, ‘Life of Pi’ during his time with the Rhythm & Hues Studios team based in Cyberjaya.
The students from Limkokwing University’s Faculty of Multimedia Creativity met Hussin Khan, a visual effects artist who has worked in many feature films including the blockbuster adventure drama film of 2012, ‘Life of Pi’ during his time with the Rhythm & Hues Studios team based in Cyberjaya. He came to address the students on the various aspects of the visual effects industry and was greeted with a warm welcome from the university.
Hussin explained how the visual effects business started and showed the students a brief history of the industry. He showed various films that were groundbreaking for their time and explained why each movie eventually influenced and moulded the industry of today. From the first animation film of the 19th century, ‘Gertie’ to James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ he explained the key elements of each film in a simple and entertaining manner. Hussin also pointed out the differences between ‘visual effects’ and ‘special effects’ with examples from many familiar sci-fi films.
After the walk down visual effects history, Hussin gave the students tips on how to land a job in the industry as well the importance of an effective show reel and how you should make one. He added that students need to be specific and specialized in their craft so that their work will show their fundamentals and skills. He also added that one must research for the job they wish to apply, hence reading and learning more of the company you are interested in.
Hussin Khan was part of the Rhythm & Hues team that won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for the film ‘Life of Pi’ in 2012. By sharing his experience and expertise, Hussin inspired the students from the Faculty of Multimedia Creativity to test their strengths and skills before braving the industry.
