This is what Nikon is demonstrating in a sculpture project in partnership with Limkokwing University.
Sixty-four students from the Faculty of Design Innovation spent six weeks to produce nine distinct sculptures made from 500 Nikon cameras and other recycled items.
The sculptures, measuring 5ft in height, were designed based on the theme “I am in Motion”.
The unique sculptures were designed to mimic human movements related to photography such as when capturing images.
The students worked on the entire process from concepts, mind maps, visual references, idea development, sketches, mock-ups and finally the creation of the sculpture.
The finished sculptures were unveiled at the university’s Hall of Fame recently.
Nikon Professional Services senior manager Mahfooz Nabi Rasool said the collaboration was part of Nikon’s commitment towards preserving the environment, as the cameras were recycled for the students to explore creativity initiatives in making the sculptures.
“Creativity is truly a major driving force behind expression and at Nikon we strongly believe that creativity sets precendence towards capturing stunning pictures,” he said.
He added that the company is looking into other ways to work alongside Limkokwing to inculcate creativity in the younger generation.
Student Karina Arystanova with her group members created a sculpture titled “I Am Awesome” depicting the sculpture taking a selfie.
A selfie is a term for self-potrait that is popular with youngsters using smartphones nowadays.
“We hope that those who see the sculpture can connect with it,” she said.
For Mohamed Faysal Mostaga Abdel Raheim, his group’s sculpture is titled “I Am Immortal”.
“People take photographs and through the pictures, they become immortal, hence the title,” he said.
The sculptures will be on display at the Nikon Show until Nov 3 at Mid Valley Megamall and then on permanent display at the Nikon Centre in Berjaya Time Square.
