Limkokwing University assisted delegates from the Embassy of Iran for the 12th Presidential Election on 19 May 2017.
Delegates from the Iranian Embassy set up a polling station at the University’s Hall of Fame where Iranian citizens gathered to exercise their voting rights.
The 12th presidential election was expected to attract 55 million Iranians around the world to vote for the country’s next president. Citizens could vote at any of the 63,000 polling stations that were monitored by 1.5 million staff.
“This election process is being conducted all over the world,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Farzad Hejazi who is an executive polling station officer for Iranian Presidency in UPM and Limkokwing.
“For the Iranians who are working or studying in Malaysia, the representative of the Iranian Embassy is providing facilities for its citizens to vote.”
According to him, this was the second time the University has come forward to provide the Iranian Embassy with a venue to set up a polling station. He also explained that Cyberjaya is a convenient location for students and their families due to the numbers of Iranians staying within the area.
He praised the University’s cooperation and response in providing assistance to the Iranian voting process.
“Without the assistance and management from the University, we would not have been able to conduct this voting,” he said.
