Delphine Chung Qi, a national air pistol and sport pistol athlete, has been awarded a full scholarship to study architecture at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Cyberjaya.

The 19 year-old rising star who hails from Sarawak, finished 26th in the 10m air pistol competition at the Germany Junior Cup in 2015.

She was also the silver medal winner at the national 4th Junior Championship held in Selangor the same year.

At the state level, she represented Sarawak in the 2014 and 2016 Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) Games respectively.

A young lady of many talents, Delphine is the only child of Chung Ming Chong, a businessman, and Iris Ho, a homemaker.

She chose architecture as she has always been interested in building structures.

“I love looking at unique buildings and I have always dreamed of coming up with my own architectural designs,” said Delphine during a visit to the Limkokwing Borneo Campus.

A former student of Chung Hua No. 4 and the Tunku Putra International School, Delphine chose to study at the Cyberjaya campus as it will enable her to continue her training at the Bukit Jalil Sports Complex.

She loves being immersed in the vibrant eco-system and yearns to become part of the Limkokwing community.

“I absolutely love the international atmosphere within the campus which gives me the opportunity to meet many young people from around the globe and get to learn about different cultures and traditions.”

While Delphine enjoys her lessons, she is equally appreciative of her lecturers and the support she receives from her friends on campus.

“What I am looking forward to the most is the Limkokwing’s London Global Classroom Programme that allows students like myself to experience learning architecture in a different country,” she said of the unique programme that offers students the chance to live and learn in London.

“It helps broaden our horizons and make it possible for us to apply what we have learned there and infuse it with Malaysia’s architectural concepts. I hope I will be able to join this programme soon.”

Finding Balance

Currently Delphine balances her time between her studies and training for the upcoming International World University Championship in March 2018 that will be held in Kuala Lumpur in which she will proudly be representing Limkokwing University.

“I am confident that the Limkokwing’s ceaseless spirit of striving for excellence will be the driving force for me to give my ultimate best in the games,” she added with an optimistic smile.

Her ultimate goal, which she is trying her best to achieve, is to qualify and compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“My dream is to compete in the Olympics and to make Malaysia, Sarawak and Limkokwing University proud.”

As one of the first recipients of the full scholarship for sports talent, Delphine conveys her utmost thanks and appreciation to Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing for giving her the opportunity to study at Limkokwing University and experience a memorable campus life the University has to offer.

“I have always wanted to study at Limkokwing and I am now very happy to be here. Thank you Tan Sri Limkokwing for this opportunity, I will make the University proud.”

Limkokwing University believes in rewarding young people who show exceptional potential in talent development or academic achievement.

This year, the University is offering RM50million worth of scholarships.

These are international awards providing opportunities for recipients to be fully immersed in a totally globalised environment that includes research and study assignments conducted at any of the University’s international campuses including the UK base in London.
