Limkokwing University recently unfurled its rich tapestry of art and ingenuity during the “New Experience Day” event. This immersive event provides a unique opportunity to delve into creativity and innovation, offering a remarkable blend of art and education. Limkokwing University’s New Experience Day showcases a tapestry of talent and cultural diversity.
This enriching extravaganza, spanning ten days from 6 July to 16 July 2023, attracted a diverse audience. Attendees included visitors from schools across Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Selangor, all unified by their shared interest in creative endeavours.
This year’s gathering was more than just a campus tour. It was a stage set for the final year showcase of graduating students and an art exhibition by underprivileged artists, uniting the participants under the banner of creativity. Moreover, the event spotlighted the “Thirteen Best Artists Showcase,” an exhibition showcasing the finest of the Malaysian Emerging Artist (MEA) Award by CIMB Foundation.
CIMB Foundation, the principal corporate partner for the MEA Award 2022, celebrated the vibrancy and novelty of local young artists by featuring 65 new creative artworks. Amongst the esteemed attendees at the launch were YB Dato’ Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, Chairman of MyCreative Ventures, Dato’ Tiffanee Lim, Chief Branding Officer of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, and representatives from CIMB, Limkokwing University, and MyCreative Ventures.
Chairman of MyCreative Ventures, YB Dato’ Muhammad Bakhtiar, emphasised the crucial role of art in shaping our identities and bolstering the economy. He stated, “Art is a large contributor to the economy and also plays an important role in shaping our personal identity, as well as contributing to nation-building. I encourage and urge corporates and companies in Malaysia to build their own art collection comprising works by our gifted Malaysian artists to strengthen and complete our art ecosystem.”
A cornerstone of the event was the insightful workshops held by eminent personalities. Malay Textile Collector John Ang, and Art Collector & Writer Nik Fahmee, shared their unique perspectives on the nation’s heritage craft and the power of storytelling through art.
An inspiring narrative unfolded with the Founder of OKU Sentral, YB Senator (R) Datuk (Dr) Ras Adiba Radzi, discussing the links between past and present narratives through the classic book “Sulalatus Salatin”. In an interview, she highlighted the importance of remembering and embracing history to shape better human beings. She says, “The themes of the Sulalatus Salatin are about the importance of friendship, sacrifice, camaraderie, and appreciating history.” She further noted that Limkokwing University, being the venue, functions as a promoter of creative education and cultural understanding.
Echoing this sentiment was Mohd Rizqi, a student from SMK Putrajaya Presint 11 (1), who expressed his fascination with the artwork displayed at the exhibition. “I think it’s amazing that a person can know what they need to do, such as the drawing itself. My friends and I get a lot of meaningful experience for us here,” he shared, his enthusiasm reflecting the general sentiment towards the event.
An integral part of the New Experience Day event was the final-year showcase of the graduating students. This visual feast featured a comprehensive array of the students’ year-long efforts, embodying the culmination of their dedication, resilience, and hard-earned expertise. As a platform to illustrate their artistic prowess, it allowed the students to confidently step into the professional world, preparing them to launch their careers.
This showcase served as a preamble to their graduation convocation slated in August. For these students, it was a tangible testament to their rigorous academic journey, marked by countless sleepless nights, relentless hard work, and relentless determination. It symbolised the transformative power of education, which had turned them from enthusiastic first-year students to accomplished graduates ready to take the world by storm. In essence, the showcase celebrated their impending graduation and their evolution as young professionals and creatives. It was a testimony to their potential and a promise of the significant contributions they are set to make to the world of creativity and innovation.
Indeed, Limkokwing University’s New Experience Day was a cultural hub, teeming with multicultural F&B vendors, art jamming sessions, and social organisation booths. It celebrated the power of creative education to unite people and foster emerging talent, becoming a beacon of inspiration for art enthusiasts, students, and the community.
