Limkokwing University’s fashion design students organized a five-day fashion carnival as part of their mid-semester practical exam. The event was held from the 7-11 October, in Limkokwing University plaza.

Limkokwing University’s fashion design students organized a five-day fashion carnival as part of their mid-semester practical exam. The event was held at the Limkokwing University plaza from 7-11 October.

The fashion, food, and music carnival featured brightly decorated stalls of student designed clothes, accessories, food, makeup and fashion books. They also had interesting stalls like the henna, nail polish, temporary tattoos, flower garlands, and many more, with the proceedings from the sales going to charity.

The event was arranged by semester five students for their event management class, with both degree and diploma Fashion Retail students participating. They set up over fifty stalls altogether. The carnival also featured 10 outside vendors who were recruited through social media.

It was part of the students’ mid-semester mark for their ‘Event Management’ class, worth 40% of their entire mark. Fashion design lecturer, Ms. Soon Tet Suan said the event was more than just a classroom activity, but practise for students.

“It is a practical which gets them ready for the industry. They learn not only how to design clothes, but also how to put them out there in the market,” she said.

On the fourth day, high school students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Cyberjaya attended the carnival. They were given a tour of the University before exploring the carnival.

Form four student, Quistina Enara, who describes herself as ‘artsy’ said she was ‘very impressed with the University and the carnival, seeing such an elaborate event being organised by students was amazing.’

Throughout the week, the fashion club ran a fashion show in conjunction with the carnival. The fashion show, which featured assorted themes every day, was held at noon at the plaza. On Friday, the students and vendors who were participating in the carnival got a chance to see international models strut their designs on the Limkokwing runway.
