Born in 1987 in North Yorkshire, England, Georgia Faye Horsley hails from Malton, North Yorkshire and has worked as a model and florist. She won her first beauty title after being crowned as Miss York in 2005. She won the prestigious Miss England title on the 30th of June, 2007 at a glittering event held at The Athena in Leicester. With the win Horsley also won the opportunity to represent England in the Miss World 2007 pageant which was held in Sanya, China on 1st December the same year. During her reign as Miss England, Georgia Faye Horsley showed keen interest to help the deaf association and cancer charities.
Horsley holds a diploma in Anatomy and Physiology and has completed a Red Cross Therapeutic care qualification course. Her aim was to pursue a career as a media make-up artist and she was due to start a degree in design and media make-up at university before she won the title of Miss England.

In the Miss World 2007 Talent category competition Horsley had an initial taste of success after being chosen as one of the top 18 semifinalists. In spite of being one of the early favourites of the contest, Horsley however did not make it to the top 16 on the final night. During the pageant, Horsley was plunged into the limelight when the judging committee told her to “fatten up” in order to get a more “womanly figure.” She was also requested to help end the anorexia problem among models. Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterised by unrealistic fear of weight gain, self-starvation, and conspicuous distortion of body image. It is a potentially fatal eating disorder in which there is a loss of appetite or desire for food, leading to severe loss of body weight even when they are dangerously underweight. The victims are often convinced that they should be thinner even when their body weight is well below average. They will go to extreme lengths to restrict eating and lose weight because they have a phobia about becoming obese.
Because of the issue she was even featured on the American television network NBC’s Today show. Horsley had her share of cyber misfortune when a bogus MySpace profile under her name surfaced claiming that her interest is ‘drinking’ and her mood being ‘horny’. She has a strong passion for Art and design and painting. Horsley also enjoys outdoor pursuits, such as Rock Climbing, Abseiling and Horse riding. She had also qualified for the regional finals of a national make-up contest.
Horsley, who was Miss York in 2005, did not have a life of plain sailing though; she is totally deaf in her right ear as a result of an ear infection when she was two and a half years old. “If you want something enough you can overcome anything,” she had said in the wake of the hurdles faced by her in achieving success. Her parents, Jean and Gareth, rushed her to the hospital after she developed high fever. She was diagnosed of suspected meningitis with a fever fit. Her dad and mom were unaware that the illness had left Georgia deaf in one ear. The problem was detected after hearing tests were carried out at school when she was nearly five years old. There was nothing that could be done to improve her hearing and Horsley’s parents said, “she wanted to adapt to the problem and not be seen as a someone wanting sympathy.”
Horsley is currently the face and voice of The Press, York’s local newspaper, who filmed Horsley to promote the city, named the U.K’s most popular visitor destination via their DVD and website.
Before winning the title of Miss England her aim was to pursue a career as a media make-up artist, having won a place at Manchester University. Recognised as one of the finest courses in the country she was also preparing to do some make-up on the set of award winning British soap opera “Coronation Street”. She opted to focus on preparing for Miss World and used the confidence she had worked hard to build and put it in good use during her reign as Miss England.
Georgia visited Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in September 2007 when she accompanied international designer Eric Way to the university’s hair saloon, Making Headlines.
Making Headlines is a collaboration between L’Oreal Professional and Shu Uemura, a skin care and cosmetics producer. Both the hair and make-up concept stores were developed at the university’s Cyberjaya campus.
