Are We Future-Ready?

On 15 January 2013 marked another memorable moment for Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in conjunction of its first-class book launching event that took place at Putrajaya. The Future is Coming - Transform Now, the 4th edition in the series of innovation by the founder and President of the University Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing. The book was officially launched by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah.

The grand ceremony was also graced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, Mothetjoa Metsing, Director of the NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women (NIEW), Tan Sri Rafiah Salim, Chairman of Limkokwing University Council and President of Perbadanan Putrajaya, Tan Sri Aseh along with guests from schools, industry, diplomatic corps, government agencies and members of the media.

The book is a compilation of all Tan Sri Limkokwing’s speeches, articles and blogs made on different occasions tackling the concern of creative and innovation and how they can push individuals, nations and countries forward. The book answers almost all untouched and often asked issues on innovation. The Future is Coming – Transform Now can be used as a handbook to challenge future issues for those who want to make their ideas alive and bring a positive change.

“A number of the articles in the book were taken from my blogs which were written for a broader audience, and in which I had taken the liberty to speak quite frankly and more freely,” explained Tan Sri Limkokwing.

“Transformation will forever be driven by creativity and innovation,” a quote from The Future is Coming – Transform Now book.

“Our future will always be defined by those with the vision to set new goals and find new directions, by those with foresight and courage to do what must be done. We must move our innovation competency and capacity up the global ranking in order to enhance our international competitiveness,” said Tan Sri Limkokwing during the launch.

“We must be prepared to re-set our criteria to benchmark excellence, so as to ensure compatibility with future demands for innovation. We must reduce the rigidity of compliance and conformity to encourage pervasive application of creativity in education,” added Tan Sri.

“We must inject future-focused leadership and future-ready intellect and skill sets into a reinvented education ecosystem. The private sector and the government must team up to identify the outcomes that are desired, and design the platform to build the human capital, culture capital, social capital and institutional support essential to build this ecosystem,” urged Tan Sri.

“Innovation cannot be taught as a subject but it must happen purely as part of the ecosystem that enables innovation,” said Tan Sri Rafiah Salim. She has classified Tan Sri Limkokwing as a mentor who has always believed that global education bears the responsibility to unlock everything that lies within each citizen. Tan Sri Rafiah also added it is her belief that this book would be a useful tool to all Malaysians and the government.

Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah indicated that the book is inspiring and highly motivational and encouraged people to read it for their personal growth. “In Tan Sri Limkokwing’s writing one can feel the passion and strong determination he conveys when he talks about innovation as a drive for change beyond business and cultures. Tan Sri’s deliveries are real, focused and offers solutions to problems that are almost visionary,” said Dato’ Saifuddin.
