“I personally had a chance to browse through Dr Tan Sri’s book and it has innovation as its apex, his other books such as The Man Who Designed the Future and Portrait of an icon have maintained and developed the same theme,” Kgathi said.
He said works such as those by the author were a stepping stone to the realisation of Vision 2016 goals of “a prosperous, productive and innovative nation” as well as an “educated and informed nation.”
He pointed out that the concept and ideas contained in the book were similar to the ideals set out by government and encapsulated in Vision 2016 and National Development Plan 10. “It is therefore on this basis that the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture is committed to supporting the creative industries and all its associated forms,” he said.
He noted that the ministfy has set up libraries in various districts and villages around the country in an effort to promote reading as a way of acquiring knowledge, information and recreation. He further noted that the government was aware of the value and critical role innovation plays in transforming a country and its economy.
He said Botswana was currently faced with challenges which could be resolved by innovative thinking hence government found it fit to come up with an Innovative Hub whose mandate is to promote innovation and technology.
