Limkokwing University’s Digital Photography student among the top finalist of Vision Petron 2014 competition

Twenty students from various universities were honoured at the Vision Petron 2014 National Student Art & Photography competition award ceremony held at the National Visual Arts Gallery on 3 October 2014.

Limkokwing University’s Digital Photography student, Muhammad Fariq Aizal bin Zainuddin won himself a place among the top ten finalist in the Photography category and received consolation prizes worth RM500, a certificate and a plaque of recognition.

“I came to pursue my studies in Limkokwing University because I have a deep interest in photography and I wanted to broad my knowledge in it. I didn’t expect to be in the top ten finalist for this competition. My lecturer had encouraged me to participate in this photography competition looking at my assignments. My inspiration for this photography just came through on the spot,” said Fariq from Johor.

Petron Malaysia Head of Retail Business, Pn. Faridah Ali said, “Vision Petron aims to cultivate local art and culture. Through it, we hope to empower young artist to use their talent as a medium to uphold national identity, unity, and values that are uniquely Malaysian such as hard work, passion for excellence, and love for country.”

The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Journey to Fulfill My Promise’ which challenges the participations to illustrate their undertakings towards their families, communities, environment or the country in their journey en route for their goals in life. The competition was opened to all Malaysian students aged from 18 to 28 years old within two categories; painting using oil or water-based media and coloured photography.

A total of 335 entries from 24 leading universities and colleges including University Malaya, Malaysian Institute of Arts, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, International Islamic University Malaysia, KDU, Taylor’s University and more were submitted to Vision Petron’s photography competition.

Attended the ceremony was Operations Manager of Petron Malaysia, Mr Jimmy Lu; Chairman of National Visual Arts Gallery, Dato Mahadzir Lokman; well-known local artist, En Mohd Yusof Ismail better known as ‘Yusof Gajah’; guests and members of the media.

Masterpieces of winners and finalists were displayed at the National Arts Gallery for a limited period.

The festival is an initiative by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, conducted by the National Visual Arts Gallery which will be showcasing nationwide local artists’ work at the exhibition.
