President Ian Khama impressed by Limkokwing Botswana class of 2012

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Botswana made history this November 1st, 2012. The Limkokwing University Class of 2012 graduates visited his Excellency the President of Botswana, Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama at his office and presented to him with a ‘Thank You’ plaque which signified the class of 2012 appreciation of the scholarships that they get from the government.

When receiving the ‘Thank You’ note from the Limkokwing University graduates represented by three vibrant Young Leaders of Botswana Award winners; Mr. Obakeng Mauco, Ms. Candida Tsheko and Mr. Peach Kereemang, His Excellency the President expressed his most heartfelt gratitude to this effort and has highlighted that this is the first time ever in history that students have presented a thank you note to the country’s president. His Excellency also noted that, “Batswana students should know that receiving scholarships from government is not a right but a privilege.”

During the visit the President shared with the Limkokwing graduates about the government’s plans for the Youth of Botswana. The President said the youth were a very important resource of the country and government would always find ways of improving their lives. One of the programmes that are quite close to the president’s heart include the ‘YES’ programme; which soughts to build a government’s internship programme through which young graduates are exposed to the work environment and employment opportunities.

The president was impressed that Limkokwing Botswana as an education hub is led by young Batswana who are driven and focused and who have been with the institution for so long. He stated that it is a great decision that after graduating these young people finds it important to lead its Mission & Vision in Botswana and regionally.

The young graduates told the president about the projects they did to receive the awards and told him about the scholarships they received from Tan Sri Limkokwing to study their masters in London, expressing gratitude to Tan Sri’s efforts towards developing young people in Botswana as well.

Responding to the President’s gratitude, Mr. Obakeng Mauco, a former Students Representative Council President said, ‘Your Excellency, we are grateful especially that you have also taken it upon yourself to avail to us various youth programmes and platforms that we can use build our lives and change our families forever.”

Mr. Peach Kereemang also presented the Botswana Christmas album to His Excellency and expressed, “We are working on another album for this year which will take the industry by storm and we hope your Excellency will continue to support us.” The President also said that he cannot wait to listen to the album and that he was very happy that now Botswana has its own Christmas songs.

President Ian Khama asked the graduates about the “Simply the Best” badges they had on and what their significance was. The graduates stated that the badges are a true reflection of all Limkokwing graduates who are ‘Simply the Best’. The president then stated that since the 3 graduates were now stars they should be given badges written “Best of the Best” and asked them when they were leaving for London and wished them good luck in their studies.
